One of the largest homes Frank Lloyd Wright ever designed has been listed for sale for $4.5 million in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Created for his cousin and the publisher of the Tulsa Tribune in the 1920s, the 10,500-square-foot house known as Westhope is on the U.S. The home’s exterior was made using 5,200 panes of glass and it includes five bedrooms, five bathrooms and a concrete pool. A home designed by Ricardo Legorreta is listed for $47 million in the Brentwood Circle neighborhood of L.A. Listed by Hollywood producer Joel Silver, known for his work in films like "Road House" and "Predator," the 25,000-square-foot home includes eight bedrooms and 10 bathrooms.

In the early 1920s, Samuel and Harriet Freeman, a couple who had successfully invested in a jewelry business in Downtown Los Angeles, commissioned famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright to build a home within the steep Hollywood Hills. The property, a modest by Hollywood standards two-bedroom, one-bathroom house, would become an important cultural hub in LA, counting among its tenants actor Clark Gable. In 1915, Aline Barnsdall, an oil heiress, first approached Frank Lloyd Wright not to build a house but a theater. A passionate supporter of the arts, she was a stage producer—earning critical acclaim for her avante-garde productions for children and adults alike in Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles (while awaiting a Wright-designed theater that never came). In 1919, she purchased Olive Hill, a 36-acre mount on Hollywood’s eastern edge and far north of downtown Los Angeles. With the site secured, the commission grew to include plans for the theater, a cinema, artist residences, commercial shops, two guest houses, and a residence for Barnsdall.

The concrete—a combination of gravel, granite and sand from the site—was hand-cast in aluminum molds to create blocks measuring 16”x 16” x 3.5” that were then woven together with steel rods, giving the textile block houses their name.
